Friendly Team at Home

On
sat 19th Jan NESC hosted the first gala of the year
in the friendly league. The visiting clubs were South
Holderness, Ryedale and Pocklington.
New Earswick’s team consisted of 42 swimmers aged between 9 and
15 yrs old, with over a quarter of these swimming in competition
for the first time. The team got off to a good start with the
girls 13 and under medley relay team winning their first event
in an impressive time of 58.77 secs. With 10 events swam the
team had a 4 point lead over second place Pocklington and with
South Holderness 6 points behind. By event 20 Pocklington began
to take the lead after New Earswick’s 11 and under boys and
girls swam too fast, dropping points in the process.
After event 30 the team had pulled the points back, trailing
leaders Pocklington by just 3 points. Despite some very
determined efforts by the younger swimmers, Pocklington began to
steadily pull away.
The final result saw Pocklington win with 131 pts,New Earswick
second with 122 pts,South Holderness third with 110pts and
Ryedale fourth with 93 pts.
The result was a great success for New Earswick’s team with so
many rookie swimmers swimming for the first time in competition.
The clubs next friendly gala sees them travelling to Driffield
on Feb 23rd.
