Friendly Team back on Top
New Earswick Swimming Club’s Friendly League Team were in action
again on Saturday 23rd February, this time at
Driffield.
The team, consisting of 34 swimmers ranging from nine to
thirteen years old, faced tough competition from Bridlington,
Driffield, Pocklington, South Hunsley, Scarborough.
After the first round of team relay events, New Earswick were in
third position with 22 points, behind Bridlington (24pts) and
Driffield (28pts). New Earswick’s 11 and under Girls medley
team, 13 and under Girls medley team and the mixed 9 year old
freestyle team were all too fast and therefore received no
points for those events.
The individual events saw the club pick up an impressive 8 first
place finishes, 9 second place finishes and a large amount of
personal best times were recorded.
First place finishes came from Ryan Powell, Tirion Horn, Katie
Proctor, Katie Buchanan, David Noble, Hannah Bircumshaw, Sophie
Nutall and Jessica Oliver.
Going into the final set of team events, New Earswick were
leading second placed Driffield by just two points. Upon hearing
this result, the swimmers continued to work hard to secure the
victory.
Superb performances came from the club’s nine and under age
group as they remained unbeaten in their team events. David
Noble, Nicholas Todd, Joseph Horn, James Madeley and Owen Ward
made up the Male Team and the female team consisted of Hannah
Bircumshaw, Katie Buchanan, Hanna Carr, Laura Carr and Mille
Carr.

Nicholas Todd scooped up the Star Performer Trophy – an award
that is presented to the swimmer who has performed exceptionally
well either in the pool or on the poolside.
New Earswick’s Friendly Team are next in action at Thirsk, on
Saturday 29th March 2008.
