About Learn to Swim
New Earswick Swimming Club is home to one of the most successful
schemes in the city. Since being founded in 1967, the club has
taught thousands of children to swim; most of which continued
into competitive swimming and reached county, district or
national level.
We offer lessons to all children from the age
of 5 upwards. Children who are 4 years of age, are able to enrol
on our waiting list.
The learn to swim scheme offers children 2 x
30 minute lessons per week, and when children progress into the
pre-competition section of the learn to swim scheme, they are
then provided with 2 x 30 minute lessons and 1 x 60 minute
lesson.
All of our teachers are experienced teachers
and most of the teaching staff hold ASA Teaching Qualifications
and Lifesaving Qualifications.
The teaching staff work to a
teaching plan that has been
developed around the ASA National Plan for Teaching Swimming.
The scheme consists of seven levels which are
named after colours:
Level 1: White
Level 2: Yellow
Level 3: Green
Level 4: Purple
Level 5: Blue
Level 6: Red
Level 7: Black
The white, yellow and green levels are seen
as the beginner groups where the FUNdamentals are taught.
The pruple and blue levels are improver
classes where children begin to swim lengths and develop further
skills before progression into the pre-competition stage.
The red and black levels are the
pre-competition groups. These groups prepare children for
progression into the Training Scheme.
