VICTORY AT THE VALLEY
New Earswick
Swimming Club’s Div 3 team were in action in their second league
gala of the season, this time swimming against host club Derwent
Valley, Filey and Scarborough Kingfishers.
The gala got
off to great start, with a win for the clubs Boys 10 and under
medley relay team of David Noble, Matthew Graves, Joe Horn and
George Mosey. A special mention goes to George, (swimming in his
first ever competitive gala) who put in a great effort swimming
the freestyle leg of the relay, coming from behind to win the
race.
After the
first 12 of the 48 races to be swam New Earswick had stormed
into a 10 point lead over rivals Filey, with seven 1st
places, two 2nd’s and two 3rd’s.
Event 16 saw
the club take its first record of the night with Frankie Marsh
winning the open girls 50m Backstroke almost 4 secs ahead of
second placed Filey.
With sister
and brother Tirion and Joe Horn both winning their fly swims and
a great swim from eleven year old Beth Taylor ,winning the girls
12 and under 50m Backstroke, the team had now a 16 point lead
over second place Filey. Event 30 saw 13 year old Darrianne
Helstrip win the girls 14 and under 50m freestyle almost 4
second ahead of second placed Filey, taking the clubs points
tally to 100.
Melissa
Harrison broke her own record, set at previous gala in the girls
open 50m Breaststroke. Next record to fall was in the boys 12
and under 50m freestyle, where Lewis Fairburn beat his own
previously set record.
Two more
records were broken by, Sarah Graves 14 and under girls
breaststroke, the Boys 12 and under freestyle relay team of
Lewis Fairburn, Daniel Jackson, Harrison Rishworth and William
Kimpson. The final record to go was broken by the girls 14 and
under freestyle relay team of Darrianne Helstrip, Rachel Scott,
Frankie Marsh and Sarah Graves.

With just two
fixtures remaining, New Earswick look to be strong favourites to
win the Division 3 title for the first time in over 10 years.
