Stocksbridge Spring Sprints '08

Nine of New
Earswick Swimming Club’s leading senior swimmers competed in
Stocksbridge Pentaqua’s Spring Sprints Open Meet on Sunday 20th
April 2008.
The 13 year
old Girls started got the gala off to a great start when Laura
Fieldhouse qualified in 1st Place for the final in a
personal best time of 33.93. Team-mate Francesca Marsh also
qualified, with a personal best time, in 3rd place.
Sarah Graves (17th) and Phoebe Williams (25th)
also produced personal best times.
The boys,
recovering from the previous evening’s tough Ridings League
encounter, rose to the challenge in the 15 & Over 50m
breaststroke event. Liam Killen (7th) fought hard,
but narrowly missed qualification for the final. Daniel Richards
(21st), Jonathan Woodford (25th) and
Patrick Good (29th) also performed well to lower
their personal best times.
Laura
Fieldhouse
maintained her great performance, when she qualified for another
final, this time in the 13 year old girls 50m butterfly. Laura
lowered her personal best time by 1.5 seconds. Sarah Graves (10th)
and Francesca Marsh (12th) were unlucky to reach the
final, but both produced personal best times. Phoebe Williams
(19th) fought hard to lower her own personal best
time by 3 seconds.
The 15 and
Over boys had another tough event, when the 50m backstroke event
saw Patrick Good finish 10th, Jonathan Woodford 11th,
Bob Hunt (13th) and Daniel Richards (22nd).
The final
of the 13 year old girls 50m backstroke saw Laura Fieldhouse
take the gold medal and Francesca Marsh miss out on the bronze
by just 0.24 seconds.
Fieldhouse,
competing in her second final of the day swam well to finish in
silver medal position in the 13 year old girls 50m butterfly
event.
The 13 year
old girls were quick to compete again, when the 50m freestyle
event emerged. Fieldhouse qualified in gold medal position with
a time of 30.05. Francesca Marsh narrowly missed her chance to
qualify when she finished 8th – just 0.28 seconds
away from a place in the final. Sarah Graves (12th)
took 0.6 seconds off her personal best time and Phoebe Williams
(22nd) reduced her PB by 1 second.
Jonathan
Woodford narrowly missed the final in the 15 & Over 50m
Butterfly event when he finished 8th and broke the 30
second barrier with a personal best time of 29.52. Liam Killen
finished 10th with a 29.71. Bob Hunt swam well to
finish 15th in a time of 30.47. Patrick Good also put
in a solid performance by finishing 19th.
The 13 year
old girls, competing in the 50m breaststroke event, added to the
list of personal best times, when Fieldhouse qualified for
another final in 5th place. Sarah Graves finished 9th
with a time of 42.42. Francesca Marsh came 14th and
Phoebe Williams finished 20th.
Bob Hunt
had his work cut out in the 15 & over 50m freestyle event. He
had to fight hard with Rotherham Metro swimmer Dale Waterhouse
for the middle lane in the final. Bob qualified in silver medal
position, just 0.32 seconds behind Waterhouse. Jonathan Woodford
finished 17th in a time of 27.38, Liam Killen
finished 19th in a time of 27.61, Patrick Good (21st)
produced a time of 28.10 and Daniel Richards came 29th
with a time of 28.75.
Laura
Fieldhouse
put in extremely good performances in the finals, taking her
second gold in the 50m freestyle event, going under the 30
second barrier for the first time. Fieldhouse finished 5th
in the 50m breaststroke final.
Bob Hunt
finished claimed the silver medal in the 15 & over 50m freestyle
final with a time of 25.85.
