Earswick Win Toughest Battle of Season

New Earswick Swimming Club's Friendly Team were in action at Scarborough Indoor Pool on Saturday 3rd May 2008. The fixture saw Bridlington, Driffield, New Earswick, Scarborough 1, Scarborough 2 and South Hunsley come together to battle it out for friendly league glory.

After some outstanding performances in the first set of team relays, New Earswick were in third place, behind Bridlington and South Hunsley.

Hannah Bircumshaw took first place in the 9yrs 25m Breaststroke event and as a result, put New Earswick into the lead by just one point ahead of Bridlington and Hunsley.

Katie Buchanan was the next person to win an individual event, when she touched home in the 9yrs 25m Butterfly event.

New Earswick's 11 & Under Breaststroke team relay of Chloe Hopper, Ellie Jackson, Emma Nuttall, Hannah Bircumshaw, Beth Taylor and Carys Ward took first place, when they finished an impressive 9 seconds ahead of second placed Bridlington.

The Girls' Open Age Group (K. Reed, C. Barkway, L. Bee and R. Openshaw) followed suite when they also won the Breaststroke Team Event.

Erin Leary was victorious in the 9yrs 25m Freestyle event, winning by an impressive 1 second.

The Girls' Open Age Group 50m Breaststroke event saw Katherine Reed finish in first place, after a tough encounter with rivals South Hunsley.

New Earswick were an impressive 8 points ahead of second placed South Hunsley, going into the final set of team relays.

The 13 & Under Girls Freestyle Relay team finished 11 seconds in front of runners-up Bridlington, to continue the point scoring.

After numerous personal best times were recorded, it was announced that New Earswick had been victorious, once again. Points were as follows:

1st - New Earswick (176pts.)
2nd - South Hunsley (165pts.)
3rd - Bridlington (157pts.)
4th - Scarborough 1 (140pts.)
5th - Driffield (128pts.)
6th - Scarborough 2 (104pts.)

Helen McLean scooped up the Star Performer Trophy for her outstanding performances in the pool.
