Gala Success for Record Breakers
New Earswick
Swimming Club’s new division 3 team made an impressive start to
their league campaign, breaking 11 league records in a tightly
fought gala at Driffield.
The gala got
off to a great start with the girls 9+ under medley relay team
winning the second event of the evening.The first record was
broken in the next event with the 12 and under boys medley relay
team of Harrison Rishworth, Daniel Jackson, William Kimpson and
Lewis Fairburn. The girls 14 and under medley relay team of
Frankie Marsh, Hannah Sturdy, Rachel Scott and Sarah Graves took
the next record winning by a tremendous margin of 16 seconds.
The first
individual record was broken by Gemma Oliver in the girls 50m
Backstroke. With 19 events swam New Earswick trailed Filey by
8points.Event 20 saw 12year old Tirion Horn win the 50m fly
swim, breaking yet another record.
Frankie Marsh
put in a great performance winning both the 14 and under 50m
Backstroke and the 14 and under 50m Freestyle in record
breaking times. Despite Mellissa Harrison winning the girls open
Breaststroke in record breaking time, Filey still led the gala
by 11 points.
In the next 3
events New Earswick turned things round with record breaking
wins for Chloe Hopper 10 and under backstroke, Lewis Fairburn 12
and under 50m freestyle and a great win for Victoria Kleanthous
in the 12 and under 50m freestyle race.
Event 38 saw
Sarah Graves win the 50m Breaststroke in a new record time and
put New Earswick in front of rivals Filey by 2 points. With ten
events remaining New Earswick fought hard to hang on to a
slender lead, and with three events left the girls 14 and under
freestyle relay team of Frankie Marsh, Rachel Scott, Hannah
Sturdy and Sarah Graves broke their second record of the
evening.
The remaining
events saw New Earswick win the gala, despite coming second to
Filey in the closely contested final two swims.
