Neil Lawrenson
Members of New Earswick Swimming Club have
been left shocked by the news that former club secretary and
coach, Neil Lawrenson, had died of a heart attack, whilst
swimming, on Tuesday 12th February '08.
The incident happened in front of about 50 people during a
public swimming session at about 5pm. The pool was almost full
due to the school half-term holidays. The pool was closed after
the incident.
Mr Lawrenson lived in Haxby, with his wife Suzanne and their
three children Alice, a Yorkshire Champion,
18, Olivia, 17, and Edward, 14.
Suzanne said: "Neil was passionate about everything he took
on. It was just total commitment and all or nothing with
whatever he did, whether it was his swimming - which he did two
or three times a week - or any of his hobbies."
Swimmers, Coaches and Spectators dedicated
a minutes silence in honour of Neil before the gala at
Kingfishers.
